Baby Week is a registered organisation and aims to bring sectors and services together to promote the best start in life. The initiative was inspired by Brazil’s ‘Semana do Bebe’ (UNICEF 2010), following a visit to the country by Churchill Fellow Lucy Potter. Leeds hosted the first English speaking Baby Week in 2016 with Child Friendly Leeds, NHS and partners across the city and since has shared best practice with other towns and cities.
Over the past nine years, thousands of citywide events now that Baby Week is national and have been attended by thousands of parents, expectant parents, practitioners, professionals, and of course babies and under 5's! Each city hosting the week has the opportunity to celebrate and bring together the work of maternity and early years services, helping to raise awareness of the critical developmental growth stages and a real focus on the 1001 days in order to give every baby the best start in life.
This year we're celebrating 10 years of Baby Week Leeds. Leeds was the city Baby Week was born in and we're so excited to be celebrating with partners across the UK! Here in Leeds though, we want every expectant and new parent to feel welcome, appreciated, supported and confident. We want to share all things baby and child-friendly and show case what Leeds has on offer, especially free or low-cost so that every parent / carer can enjoy those pretty little experiences and we as a city can promote the best start. So if you have an idea, a venue, skills, activity or events that you want to show case during Baby Week, let's talk!
