Migration Yorkshire is an organisation that provides strategic support to organisations in the Yorkshire and Humber region in managing migration and helping new migrants, including refugees, to integrate. We are currently facilitating the development of a new regional Refugee Integration Strategy and Refugee Integration Forum to help us deliver the best outcomes for refugees. We are currently consulting local stakeholders, including refugees and asylum seekers, on various aspects of refugee integration, and we want to hear your views.
This Consultation Questionnaire is part of this consultation and should take between 10 and 15 minutes to complete. Your responses are anonymous. Your contribution is very important to us, and will help us understand how refugees are currently integrating in the region. It will also help us set priorities for the next few years.
This questionnaire provides you with an opportunity to help shape the new Strategy and Forum. We want to hear your views, whatever your role, knowledge or experience are. The questionnaire if designed for all people who have a stake in refugee integration, including professionals, volunteers, service users, and elected members.
Guidelines for completing the questionnaire
- By ‘refugee’ we mean anyone who lives in the Yorkshire and Humber region and has a personal experience of forced migration or the asylum system, for instance, as a refugee or asylum seeker.
- By ‘providers’ we mean service providers, including those in the voluntary and community sector (VCS).
- We are not defining ‘integration’ in this consultation; instead we rely on what integration means to you. It means different things to different people, but for most, ‘integration’ is closely related to ideas of belonging, inclusion, opportunity, acceptance, adaptation, welcome, home, and so on.
- Each question provides a statement about refugee integration in Yorkshire and Humber, and you are invited to choose whether you think it is a true reflection of what is happening in the region today, using a scale from 1 (where you think the statement is completely wrong or false) to 10 (the statement is absolutely right or true).
- As answers will depend on a number of factors, please use simple criteria to choose your answer. For instance, if you think that a statement is true for most refugees (or services), you may choose a number closer to 10. But if you believe that another statement is only true for a small proportion of refugees (or services), then a number closer to 1 may best reflect your view.
- Please answer each question from your own perspective, using your knowledge and experience, however local or personal it is. This may be related to your local area or to the region as a whole. It could also be related to the place where you live or work, or both.
- If you feel like you cannot answer a particular question, just leave it blank.
The questionnaire consists of five sections: people, places, providers, partnerships and participation. At the end of each section you will find a ‘comments’ field, where you can add any thoughts and comments, or explain your answers in more detail. For instance, you may feel that some of the statements in that section are true for resettled refugees, but do not apply to asylum seekers, or that are true only for some groups of refugees, or in some areas only.
