Introduction

Leeds City Council (LCC) operate over 100 allotment sites. Some sites are directly managed by LCC and others are managed by an Allotment Association, volunteer committee, private rentals, Parish or Town Council.

The waiting lists for allotments have continued to grow since 2020, with a few of the sites now having an average 5 year waiting time. An allotment is a big commitment both in time and money that people invest in their plots.

A full plot is approximately the size of a tennis court and takes a minimum of 8 hours a week to maintain, once cultivated. Plot holders enter into a legal contract to have at least 60% of their plot growing edible crops, this is what is meant by cultivated.

Plot holders can grow food for themselves and their family but are not permitted to sell any.
