What are your views on the school Easter holiday in Leeds?

School Easter holiday consultation

Leeds City Council is seeking your views on the timing of the Easter break for the next few years.  Since 2010 Leeds has fixed its school Easter break to the first two weeks of April, regardless of when the Easter weekend falls. Usually the Easter bank holidays fall somewhere within this break, but once every few years they fall outside.

We are now seeking public opinion in order to decide whether to continue with this arrangement or return to a school Easter break that moves according to the Easter weekend.

Not all schools have to abide by the dates the council sets. Academies, Free schools, Foundation schools and Voluntary-Aided schools have the authority to set their own dates and would continue to do so regardless of any change the council may make as a result of this consultation.
The calendar for 2018-19 has already been approved and published. The boxes highlighted in bold are Good Friday, Easter Monday and the two May Bank Holidays. The paler boxes are the school holidays:

The following Calendars show how Easter will fall over the next two years if Leeds continues with the fixed Easter break.

Would you prefer:

Option 1 – The school Easter break continues to be fixed to the first two weeks of April. Spring and summer terms are more equal in length. Sometimes the Easter bank holidays fall outside of the school holiday. Leeds often has a different Easter break to other authorities such as Bradford and Wakefield.
Option 2 – The school Easter break varies from year to year. The Easter weekend is always incorporated in the school holiday, at the beginning, middle or end. Sometimes the spring and summer terms are very short or very long.  Leeds generally has an Easter break that matches those of other authorities such as Bradford and Wakefield.
